Lisa Plimmer

“I qualified as a Speech and Language Therapist in 1993 from what is now called Birmingham City University. I originally worked in the NHS across Adult and Paediatric settings covering everything from in-patient wards, rehabilitation settings, community clinics and schools. I took a break from directly using my skills due to family commitments. I continued using my knowledge in many personal and voluntary environments until I was offered opportunities to be employed to support Speech and Language needs in a number of schools.  In the position of a teaching assistant, for nearly ten years. I utilised the knowledge from my qualification to implement the Language Link Program and interventions set by NHS and Independent Speech and Language Therapists.

I am currently working with children in mainstream primary settings as I follow the process of returning to practice as a Speech and Language Therapist. I work with children who present with a variety of Speech and Language Needs as I refresh my ability to assess and set targets, linked to interventions and advice, that will enable these children to make progress. I am loving this opportunity to renew my therapist skills, re-register and to be a part of such a dynamic, experienced and knowledgeable group of Speech and Language Professionals that is WMSLT.”
