Embracing Digital Documentation for a Greener Future

Imagine a world of paperwork, endless files, and a weight of guilt about the environmental impact of our practices. As all Speech and Language Therapists, and Occupational Therapists can relate to, we found ourselves amidst stacks of case notes, assessment paperwork, therapy targets, and more, realising that our paper-heavy practices weren’t aligning with a vision of a healthier planet.

Recognising the need for change, a collective concern emerged among our WMSLT team. We weren’t alone in wanting to make a positive shift – not just for our own well-being but for the bigger picture of global environmental health.

The solution? Digital documentation. Transitioning from mountains of paper to the simplicity of digital records has been a game-changer for us. No more wrestling with paperwork – just a few clicks, and we’re on our way to making a significant impact on the environment. Beyond this, going digital has streamlined our services. Assessments, progress tracking, school transfers, caseload management – all seamlessly accessible at our fingertips.

The global shift during the COVID era prompted us, like much of the country, to embrace tele-practice. This move not only provided convenience but also significantly reduced our carbon footprint. No more rushing across the city for appointments. We’ve transformed our meetings into virtual spaces, including EHCP reviews, service planning sessions, 1:1 trainings, team CPDs, and staff meetings.

Now, while there’s more to be done, embedding digital documentation in our practices is a stride in the right direction. It’s like turning the first page of a book – the beginning of an exciting narrative that we’re eager to continue writing! Join us in celebrating these small steps towards a greener future.
