How will your ‘hub’ setting benefit from our SEN service?
At WMSLT we recognise that many schools are setting up their own ‘hub’ settings in response to the ever-increasing number of children with significant language and communication needs. We have a team of experienced, specialist staff that can support you to establish a hub or enhance an existing hub within your school. Designed to run alongside our mainstream service, our SEN service will enable your staff to build a thriving, autonomous, safe environment for your students with early complex communication needs.
How will the SEN service run alongside my existing WMSLT mainstream service?
Although the SEN service can be purchased without our mainstream service, they are designed to run alongside each other seamlessly in order to maximise speech, language and communication support across your school.
Your mainstream WMSLT team will continue to support the caseload throughout the rest of your school whilst the SEN team will provide the training and more specialist tailored provision to your hub setting. For further information on our mainstream service, check out our primary and secondary page.

How does the SEN service work?
Our SEN service supports the universal and targeted level of the graduated approach. The support is designed to be in place for one year and, at the end of this time, your school will have a successful, self-sufficient hub. A large amount of support will be provided in term one, with this reducing over the year as your hub staff grow in confidence and skills.
Training is a big focus in this package. We will provide training to all members of staff working in the hub throughout the year. The training will cover a number of topics including…
-Assessing and devising outcomes for students with early complex communication needs
-Specific training covering a core set of interventions
-Bespoke enabling that will support your staff to offer a multisensory provision tailored to the needs of individual children
Our team will work together with your hub staff in order to overcome any barriers and to ensure that your hub is supporting all students accessing the setting. We will support you to set up or enhance the environment; employing good Autism practise, visual support and maximising opportunities for communication. We will enable your staff to implement quality, evidence-based interventions such as Attention Autism and Intensive Interaction. We will take a total communication approach and can support your staff in using a variety of methods of augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) using a neuro-diverse affirming approach.
